Anetta Mona Chişa, born in 1975 in Romania, and Lucia Tkáčová, born in 1977 in Slovakia, have been working together since 2000. They both graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and currently live and work in Prague.
The duo often reactivate references from Eastern Europe history and convert them into new meanings and experiences, forging liaisons between generations and pointing out stereotypical mode of representation of this period. Their work, embracing videos, installation, textual works, and performance, attempts to bring to a more global consciousness a state of constant introspection, of curiosity in exploring the world they live in, and of the complex relationship between the individual and the collective in contemporary society. Gender relations are often at stake as well as their role of Eastern European artists in a Western-dominated art world, of which they humorously and ironically disrupt stable securities.
